3 day weekend

Hope you had a wonderful Labor Day weekend!  We certainly did.  We spent lots of time together enjoying the cooler temperatures outside.  We went to the park, we did some yardwork, we breathed in some wonderfully crisp air, we simply enjoyed being together.  It was a great weekend.  Really great.

On Saturday morning, we took Callan to the park.  He rode a swing for the first time.  And a slide, and those bouncy back-and-forth things.

Sunday was filled with church, grocery shopping, laundry, and frozen yogurt.

Monday was spent outside doing some much needed yardwork.  We pulled all of the plantings/weeds from the front and side of the house, and started on some clean up in the backyard.  We had completely filled the green waste trash can, so we had to call it quits.  It just got picked up about 10 minutes ago, so we plan on filling it (at least partially) again tonight.  On Monday evening, we met some friends over at the dog park.  Ellie had a grand old time.  It was fun to watch a bunch of little dogs sniff, chase, and wander freely.  This was the first time we have ever taken Ellie to a dog park - I think we'll be going a bit more often now that we know she does so well in a social dog setting.

I wish every weekend was a three day weekend...but maybe they wouldn't be so special if they came so often.

thank you, Pinterest

Lately, me and a few friends have been updating our Facebook statuses with Pinterest recipe success statements, followed by "Thank you, Pinterest".  Pinterest isn't a complete time-suck if you actually DO something with the inspiration you've found, right?!

I thought I'd share a few of my successes that I've had in the past week.

(Perhaps slightly over-cooked, but still delicious!)

Homemade tortilla chips. (Guacamole is store bought - sue me.)

My go-to chili topped with (box mix) cornbread - idea inspired from here.

Cauliflower pizza crust.  It was actually quite good!  I'd totally make it again.

I have a few more recipes, found via Pinterest, that I'll be trying out this weekend; hopefully I'll have a few more successes to share!

Oh, and hooray for a 3-day weekend!  We have projects and family time planned.  Can't wait!

New Jersey

I'm finally getting around to posting pics from our New Jersey trip.  To find time in my day to load and edit pictures is a challenge.  And to be quite honest, it's far from the top of my daily to-do list.  Working on it a little bit here, and a little bit there got the job done, though.  So here we go.

Callan and I had a wonderful time spending the week with my parents, and getting to meet my niece for the very first time!  (She's 5 months old, now!  I can't believe it took that long to finally meet her.)  At 9 months old, Callan is at such a fun age and interacts with everyone he meets (and re-meets).  Instead of giving you a play by play of our trip, I'll just share pictures and let them speak for themselves.  (A few captions might help set the stage for you, though.)
