7 months

Good grief. 

I can't believe our little man is 7 months old already.

I'm going to be planning his first birthday party before I know it.

DIY: map pendant

 This was my inspiration for the pendant in Callan's room.

I didn't find an online tutorial, I just pinned the image so I knew how to find it when I was ready to wing this project.

I'll tell ya, it was really fun to make - I loved seeing it come together, circle by circle.

Here's a little how-to:
{super easy}

I started out with a plain, white, 22", paper pendant. 

I gathered a few vintage maps from a local antique store - one from California {where Travis is from, and where we lived for 6+ years before moving to OK}, one from New Jersey {where I'm from, born and raised}, and one from Oklahoma {where Callan is from}.  I also pulled an old CA roadmap from our car, and a US road atlas from the backseat pocket just in case the maps purchased for this project weren't enough.

{They weren't.}

I cut out DOZENS of 5" circles.

{I used a small Pyrex bowl as my pattern.}

 Then hot glued them to the pendant.

I went through quite a few glue sticks.

But the end result is so fun!

It reminds me of a giant artichoke {ish}.

 
At night time, the pendant glows with such a beautiful soft light - perfect ambiance for sleepy baby.  And just enough light for a diaper change.

Callan's room

Well, I can happily say that I'm about 95% done with Callan's room.  Just a few more touches and it will be complete.  It might be a while before I get around to those last touches, so here's a peek at what the room looks like at nearly finished.

But first,
let's take a quick look back at what Callan's room looked like when we moved in.

Ok, on to what that formerly purple/grey, dingy room looks like now.

Left to do in the room:

add a shade to the arched window
add some sort of valance to the other window

buy/make a curtain panel for the closet doorway, and install it

{eventually} replace the carpet or hunt down an {8x10} area rug

paint the door

I think Callan approves.

**{Note: This room was re-done on a ridiculously small budget.
The cost of a can of primer and a can of paint (my parents bought the second gallon of paint), and maybe $15 for maps and fabric.  Everything else we already had - items were repurposed, repainted, and reused.}**

 Saturday morning breakfast.

Little Big Planet on Sunday night with the hubby.  

This is what my character looks like.

I want to put him in my pocket and take him everywhere I go.

lazy susans turn productive

You know when you move into a "new" house and the previous owners leave behind a bit of yuck?  Well, the corner/lazy susan cabinet in the kitchen was one of those areas that had a bit of yuck.  Including a tin of sardines, a bottle of MSG {I'm not kidding!}, and some gooey gunk on the lazy susans and bottom surfaces of each of the cabinets {upper and lower}. 

They started out looking like this.

A weird green color.

My father-in-law pulled out the lazy susans while they were visiting during the week of Easter.  I gave them a good scrubbing and then two coats of primer and 2 coats of paint.  Ahh...so much better.

Then the insides of the cabinet got the same treatment.  I, literally, had to get INTO the bottom cabinet to paint it.  It was quite the sight.

And now all of the stuff that was cluttering the counter is neatly put away in these cabinets.

And now to do something about those red cabinets...

button blooms

Emily writes one of my all time favorite blogs {Jones Design Company}.  

Every single post inspires me.  

A recent post on button flowers had me pulling out a bag of buttons from my grandma and whipping up a few little blooms of my own.

I dumped the bag out on the table and started stacking buttons and threading the wire through the buttonholes.

I made, just shy of, 2 dozen flowers.  Here are few.

The others?

They add a little whimsy to a potted jade plant in my kitchen window.
