Idaho or bust

Heeeeeeeck yeah!
It's vacation time!

bags are packed

You know when you've planned a trip and you look forward to it for months and months (and months) and then it finally comes time to pack up the car and you're a little bit sad (but incredibly excited at the same time!) because this vacation can only last for so long and then it will be time to turn around and go home?  That's where I'm at right now.  We leave tonight for a bound-to-be-wonderful vacation with the greatest of friends.  I'm having difficulty containing my excitement.  I cannot wait to savor each and every moment that we have away together, making memories that will last us into old age.

We've already experienced moments of this vacation in our minds, so hopefully we can live up to them.

(I have no doubt that we will exceed them.)

from the weekend

This weekend was pretty hot.  Our little, outside temperature gauge creeped past 100 degrees on both Saturday and Sunday.  Thankfully, there was a bit of a breeze.  This is Oklahoma, after all - there's almost always a breeze.

This didn't keep us from getting some work done in the yard, though.  We spent several hours in the yard, pulling weeds, on Saturday.  Yes, the yard had gotten that bad.

Callan didn't mind, he loves his time outside, whether it's 100 degrees or 40.

After a much needed shower on Saturday evening, I enjoyed a very yummy strawberry daiquiri - my first thoroughly enjoyed adult beverage since having Callan, along with some feta and spinach stuffed burgers on the grill.  A perfect way to end the day.

We finished up in the yard on Sunday evening.  The green waste trash can was at max capacity, so with all the weeds pulled, and dirt cleared, we called it a night, but not before some fun with the hose.

Despite all the work we put into the yard, we had a really great weekend together as a family.  Productivity, with my boys by my side, makes my heart happy.

quilt progress

I thought I'd share a peek at how my scrap quilt is coming along!
I definitely have a favorite square, so far...and a least favorite one.
Do you?

from the weekend

Father's Day 2012, how did you celebrate the fathers in your life?

We had a low key day - went grocery shopping, out for ice cream, and just hung out at home.

But, really, there's no better place to be than together.

Love my boys.

starting a scrap quilt

I love a stack of handmade quilts.
I'm, particularly, in love with this stack.

Quilts are comfortable, welcoming, and a little bit country.

I want a stack of my own.

I have a lot of scrap fabric left over from previous sewing projects; some of it was even passed down to me from my grandma.  I've always dreamed about making a scrap fabric quilt...on a whim, yesterday, I decided to start one.

It may take me months to finish it...lets set next Spring as my deadline, m'kay?
It's going to make a perfect picnic blanket once that last stitch is sewn.
I'm pretty excited to watch it come together.

Do you have loads of scrap fabric sitting around?
Do you have plans for it?
Or do you like to keep it as an "emergency" stash?

oh, to be...

Some days I long for a dip in a pool.
Any of these would do.
